For the president
Dear President Duterte,
I believed you in 2016 when you claimed you would. You were supposed to put an end
to the corruption in our country. You were supposed to put an end to the Philippines'
catastrophic presidential cycle. I noticed that you were unlike prior leaders in our country. I
thought you were the driving force for change in the Philippines. I was entirely wrong.
You did a lot for our country, both good and bad, but the negative is more memorable
to me since it had a bigger influence on me. Yes, I think that a drug war is a good idea, but I
disagree with how you're going about doing it. Did you forget that criminals are human beings
as well? Human rights are being trampled by the so-called "war on drugs." The government has
admitted to 6,000 extrajudicial executions, which is far too many to be morally acceptable. The
ongoing pandemic is your opportunity to redeem yourself, to show that you are the true leader
of our country that you were born to be, but you have already revealed your true colors. You
and the government handled the pandemic badly, and now the people of our country are paying
the price for your and the government's mistakes. The Philippines is one of just two countries
in the world where classes have yet to resume.
But I understand; I can't imagine being president of a country with 111 million people
and making decisions under duress, especially at your age. I admire you because of who you
are as a person; you are brave. I admire you for your bravery and daring. But, as President of
our country, I loathe you and what you do, and I believe the majority of the public does as
well. I believe you can serve the country, and I continue to believe you can, but I also believe
you can be a better representative of our country.
Just imagining being the President of the Philippines is no joke. It's a job wherein you commit yourself serving a country filled with people that have different mindsets, protecting and improving the country, and the list goes on. He had his downfalls and achievements. It really is understandable that he cannot please everyone and that is already a task hard to undertake. Despite of the people bashing him, he remains standing and unfazed of the matter. He tries his best and I know what that feels, one of the reasons why I will always understand and support him all the way.
ReplyDeleteVery well said! Overall, the blog post is very informative and I love how you point out things that you like and dislike about the president. I learned a lot from it, as well as realizing a lot of things. Good job, and keep it up!
